Renowned filmmaker Vishal Bhardwaj has once again expressed his desire to collaborate with Shah Rukh Khan, admitting that despite years of conversations and story exchanges, the two have never worked together on a film. Speaking candidly about the missed opportunity, Bhardwaj said he remains hopeful that the long-anticipated collaboration will eventually materialise.
Bhardwaj, who is currently in the spotlight following the release of O’Romeo, said the idea of working with Shah Rukh Khan continues to excite him, even after several near-misses over the years.

“It Has to Happen at Some Point”
Reflecting on his professional interactions with the superstar, Bhardwaj said that conversations between the two are frequent and warm. According to the filmmaker, Shah Rukh Khan has always been approachable and encouraging whenever a new story is discussed.
“I think it has to happen,” Bhardwaj said, explaining that he speaks to Shah Rukh Khan multiple times every year regarding various story ideas. “I talk to Shah Rukh so many times throughout the year for so many stories. He always responds to my message, and he’s a lovely person.”
Bhardwaj went on to describe Shah Rukh Khan as one of the most charismatic personalities in the country, saying that his appeal extends far beyond the screen.
“He’s the greatest charmer of our country,” Bhardwaj said. “Who doesn’t love Shah Rukh Khan? Everyone loves him. There has to be something very beautiful about him as a person that makes him Shah Rukh Khan.”
A Collaboration That Almost Happened
The filmmaker revealed that he had even shared a story with Shah Rukh Khan during the making of O’Romeo, hoping that the project might finally bring the two together. While the collaboration did not materialise at that time, Bhardwaj said the mutual intent remains strong.
“I had sent him a story during this film as well,” he said, adding that Shah Rukh Khan often acknowledges the idea that they should eventually work together. “He always says, ‘There should be a film that we do together.’”
Ending the thought on a hopeful note, Bhardwaj said, “Definitely, there has to be one film between Shah Rukh Khan and me. Inshallah, iss baar woh miracle ho jaye.”
Why the Pairing Matters
A collaboration between Vishal Bhardwaj and Shah Rukh Khan has long been a subject of curiosity among cinema enthusiasts. Bhardwaj is known for his distinctive storytelling, layered characters, and literary adaptations, while Shah Rukh Khan has repeatedly reinvented himself across genres over his decades-long career.
Industry observers believe that a Bhardwaj-Khan collaboration could result in a film that blends mainstream appeal with strong narrative depth a combination that could resonate with audiences both in India and internationally.
Despite their differing cinematic paths, both share a reputation for creative risk-taking, making the absence of a collaboration all the more notable.

About O’Romeo
Written and directed by Vishal Bhardwaj, O’Romeo draws inspiration from Hussain Zaidi’s book Mafia Queens of Mumbai. The film marks Bhardwaj’s return to a gritty crime-driven narrative, blending elements of power, exile, loyalty and redemption.
The story centres on Ustara, played by Shahid Kapoor, a gangster who was once part of a powerful criminal syndicate but is forced into exile after killing a don’s brother. The narrative follows his journey as he later becomes involved in protecting and assisting Afsha Qureshi, also known as Rani Sharma, portrayed by Triptii Dimri.
Ensemble Cast and Reception
O’Romeo features an ensemble cast that includes Nana Patekar, Avinash Tiwary, Tamannaah Bhatia, Disha Patani, Farida Jalal, and Vikrant Massey, adding depth and diversity to the film’s narrative.
The film has been noted for its atmospheric storytelling and Bhardwaj’s signature musical and visual style, further reinforcing his position as one of Hindi cinema’s most distinctive filmmakers.
Looking Ahead
While there is no official confirmation of a future project involving Shah Rukh Khan, Bhardwaj’s comments have reignited excitement among fans eager to see the two creative forces come together.
For now, the filmmaker remains optimistic trusting time, timing, and perhaps a little bit of destiny.
As Bhardwaj himself put it, sometimes all it takes is one miracle.
