Middle East Conflict: 80 International Flights Cancelled at Delhi Airport !

Prime Vista News

Around 80 international flights were cancelled at Delhi airport due to Middle East tensions. Over 1,100 overseas flights scrapped by Indian airlines in three days.

As tensions escalate in the Middle East, at least 80 international flights were cancelled at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport on Tuesday morning due to operational disruptions and airspace restrictions.

According to airport officials, 36 departures and 44 arrivals were cancelled, affecting hundreds of passengers travelling to and from destinations in West Asia and beyond.

The cancellations come amid ongoing geopolitical tensions that have forced airlines worldwide to reassess routes passing through sensitive airspace corridors.

Airlines Adjust Operations

While several carriers suspended services temporarily, some have begun partial resumption of operations. Emirates is among the airlines that has restarted limited flights to and from the Middle East.

However, disruptions continue. An Emirates flight, EK513, which was en route to Dubai, was forced to return to Delhi due to airspace restrictions, according to data available on Flightradar24. Meanwhile, flight EK512 from Dubai successfully landed in Delhi earlier on Tuesday morning.

Airport authorities indicated that westbound international flights are particularly impacted as airlines navigate alternate flight paths to avoid conflict zones.

Official Statement from DIAL

In a statement posted on X, Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL), which operates the capital’s airport, said:

“Due to the ongoing political situation in the Middle East, several westbound international flights are causing delays or schedule adjustments.”

The airport operator advised passengers to stay in contact with their respective airlines for the latest updates on flight status.

Delhi airport handles over 1,300 flights daily, making it one of the busiest aviation hubs in South Asia. Even limited cancellations can significantly disrupt passenger movement and airline schedules.

Over 1,100 Overseas Flights Cancelled

The broader impact of the Middle East crisis is being felt across Indian aviation. In the last three days alone, Indian airlines have cancelled 1,117 overseas flights, according to official figures.

Airlines are reportedly adjusting schedules due to restricted airspace, safety advisories, and rising operational costs linked to longer alternate routes. Avoiding conflict zones often requires extended flight paths, resulting in higher fuel consumption and possible crew duty limitations.

Aviation experts note that such large-scale disruptions can have a cascading effect, leading to delays in aircraft rotations and affecting domestic schedules as well.

Passenger Advisory

Travellers flying internationally, especially to destinations in the Middle East, Europe, or North America, are advised to:

  • Check flight status regularly before leaving for the airport
  • Maintain contact with airline customer service channels
  • Arrive early to accommodate potential security or operational changes
  • Monitor official airport and airline announcements

With airspace conditions evolving rapidly, airlines may continue to modify routes or cancel additional services depending on safety assessments.

Global Aviation Impact

The Middle East serves as a crucial transit corridor connecting Asia, Europe, and Africa. Major Gulf carriers operate extensive networks through hubs such as Dubai, Doha, and Abu Dhabi. Any disruption in the region’s airspace can therefore impact global aviation flows.

Industry observers suggest that the situation remains fluid, and the scale of cancellations may change depending on diplomatic and military developments in the coming days.

For now, operations at Delhi airport remain functional overall, but international travellers are urged to stay alert to last-minute changes.
