Khamenei killed by Israel’s Blue Sparrow missile that strikes from near space !

Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei was killed in a high-precision missile strike that reportedly used Israel’s powerful Blue Sparrow system a weapon capable of travelling to the edge of space before plunging back toward Earth at hypersonic speeds.

The strike marked a dramatic escalation in the growing Middle East conflict and was described by analysts as one of the most sophisticated targeted attacks ever carried out against a national leader.

The US-Israeli strike on Saturday targeted Khamenei’s heavily guarded compound on Pasteur Street in Tehran, where the 86-year-old cleric was reportedly meeting senior Iranian officials.

Iranian state media confirmed the supreme leader’s death the following morning, sending shockwaves across the region and triggering fears of a wider regional war.

Missile that briefly travels through space

The weapon reportedly used in the attack was the Blue Sparrow, part of Israel’s Sparrow missile family.

The Blue Sparrow follows a quasi-ballistic trajectory, meaning it climbs extremely high into the atmosphere sometimes reaching near-space altitudes before descending sharply toward its target.

Originally developed as part of Israel’s Sparrow missile programme, the system was designed to simulate Soviet-era Scud ballistic missiles during missile defence testing.

The Sparrow family includes:

  • Black Sparrow
  • Silver Sparrow
  • Blue Sparrow

Over time, the Blue Sparrow system was modified for operational strike roles, enabling it to be used in real combat situations.

The missile measures approximately 6.5 metres in length and weighs around 1.9 tonnes. It has a range of roughly 1,240 miles (about 2,000 kilometres) and is typically launched from fighter aircraft such as the McDonnell Douglas F‑15 Eagle.

Once launched, a booster rocket propels the missile toward the edge of space. After reaching its peak trajectory, the missile separates and re-enters the atmosphere at extremely high speed before striking its target.

This steep descent dramatically reduces the reaction time available to air defence systems, making interception extremely difficult.

Fragments believed to be from the missile were reportedly later found in Iraq, along what analysts believe was its flight path toward Tehran.

Operation targeting Iran’s leadership

The strike was part of a wider Israeli military campaign reportedly named Operation Epic Fury, aimed at targeting key Iranian military and political leadership.

Israeli fighter aircraft are believed to have taken off shortly after 7:30 am Iran time, reaching launch positions roughly two hours later.

At around 9:40 am, approximately 30 precision-guided munitions were launched toward Khamenei’s compound and surrounding facilities.

Several of these were believed to be Blue Sparrow missiles.

Videos circulating on social media shortly after the attack showed thick plumes of smoke rising from multiple locations across Tehran, including the area surrounding the supreme leader’s residence.

Satellite imagery released later indicated that several buildings inside the compound had been severely damaged or destroyed.

Intelligence operation years in the making

The strike was reportedly the result of a long-running intelligence operation involving Mossad and Israel’s elite cyber-intelligence unit Unit 8200.

Israeli intelligence agencies are believed to have spent years tracking the movements of Khamenei’s security teams and mapping daily activities inside the compound.

The operation reportedly involved:

  • Monitoring communications networks across Tehran
  • Hacking into traffic camera systems
  • Tracking movements of security personnel
  • Studying the “pattern of life” of Iranian leadership

According to intelligence officials quoted in international reports, analysts built a detailed behavioural map showing when senior Iranian officials typically gathered and where they were most vulnerable.

The final decision to strike came after intelligence indicated that multiple senior Iranian officials would attend an in-person meeting with Khamenei on Saturday morning.

Timing the strike

For years, Khamenei had reportedly spent most nights inside a deep underground bunker beneath his residence, which Iranian officials believed would protect him from air strikes.

Israeli planners therefore waited for a rare opportunity when the supreme leader and senior commanders would be above ground at the same time.

Shortly before the attack, Israeli cyber units reportedly disrupted mobile phone networks around the compound, preventing warnings from reaching security personnel.

When the missiles struck, Iranian officials were reportedly gathered for a morning leadership meeting.

Along with Khamenei, several senior figures from the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps were reportedly killed in the attack.

Some reports also suggested that members of the supreme leader’s family who were present inside the compound during the meeting were among those killed.

Regional tensions surge

The killing of Khamenei represents one of the most dramatic escalations in the long-running confrontation between Israel and Iran.

Analysts warn that the strike could trigger wider military retaliation across the Middle East, potentially drawing in multiple regional actors.

Iran has not yet officially announced its response, but senior Iranian commanders have vowed that the attack “will not go unanswered.”
