At the India AI Impact Summit 2026 in New Delhi, PM Narendra Modi called for democratizing AI, while French President Emmanuel Macron praised India’s unmatched digital infrastructure and India Stack.
Global leaders, policymakers, and top technology executives gathered at Bharat Mandapam on Wednesday for the India AI Impact Summit 2026, where Prime Minister Narendra Modi and French President Emmanuel Macron delivered strong messages on inclusive, responsible, and globally accessible artificial intelligence.
The six-day summit, which began on Monday, is themed “Sarvajan Hitaya, Sarvajan Sukhaya” meaning welfare for all, happiness for all. It marks the fourth international AI summit, following earlier editions held in the United Kingdom in 2023, South Korea in 2024, and France in 2025.
10:36 AM – India Builds and Adopts Technology at Unmatched Speed: PM Modi
Addressing the summit, Prime Minister Modi said the real question was no longer what artificial intelligence could do in the future, but how it could be applied in the present. He emphasised that India not only builds technology but also adapts it at an unprecedented pace.
“Artificial intelligence marks a transformative chapter in human history. India is not just a part of the AI revolution, but is leading and shaping it,” the Prime Minister said.
He highlighted that the summit was being hosted in India a nation representing one-sixth of humanity, home to the world’s largest youth population and one of the largest pools of technology talent globally.

10:45–10:59 AM – Call to Democratize AI, Guard Against Misuse
Prime Minister Modi stressed that AI must be democratised and must serve as a tool for inclusion and empowerment, particularly for the Global South.
“We must democratise AI. It must become a tool for inclusion and empowerment,” he said, adding that welfare and happiness of all must be the benchmark for AI development.
Warning against misuse, the Prime Minister said deepfakes and fabricated content pose serious risks to open societies. He proposed the idea of authenticity labels for AI-generated content, similar to nutrition labels on food products.
“We have to give an open sky to AI, but at the same time we have to keep the reins in our hands,” he said.
11:13 AM – Macron Lauds India’s Digital Transformation
French President Emmanuel Macron praised India’s digital public infrastructure, calling it a global benchmark that no other nation has been able to replicate.
“India built something that no other country in the world has built,” Macron said.
“A digital identity for 1.4 billion people. A payment system processing 20 billion transactions every month. A health infrastructure that has issued 500 million digital health IDs.”
He said these achievements form the foundation of the India Stack, describing it as an open, interoperable, and sovereign digital ecosystem with lessons for the world.
11:15 AM – New Delhi Frontier AI Impact Commitments Announced
Union IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced the New Delhi Frontier AI Impact Commitments, under which leading global AI companies and Indian innovators have made voluntary pledges to support inclusive and responsible AI.
The commitments focus on real-world AI usage, job impact assessments, multilingual and contextual evaluations, and public-interest applications.
12:02 PM – Jio, RIL to Invest ₹10 Lakh Crore
Reliance Industries Chairman Mukesh Ambani announced that Jio and RIL will invest ₹10 lakh crore over the next seven years, starting this year. He said the group aims to reduce the cost of AI in the same way it made mobile data affordable across India.
“The world stands at a fork over AI,” Ambani said, adding that India’s path must ensure affordable and accessible AI for all.

Bharti Group Chairman Sunil Mittal said AI would transform sectors such as healthcare, education, deep research, and medical sciences, and is becoming integral to business operations.
Google DeepMind CEO Demis Hassabis said India is emerging as a future global powerhouse for artificial intelligence and noted that the world is approaching a threshold moment with artificial general intelligence.
OpenAI CEO Sam Altman said India is currently leading the world in AI adoption and is poised to become one of the largest AI markets globally. He described India’s technology ecosystem as setting a global pace.
Adobe Chairman and CEO Shantanu Narayen said the implications of AI in India would be greater than anywhere else due to population scale and that India could lead globally on data, privacy, and security.

During the Leaders’ Plenary Session, Prime Minister Modi said AI companies carry a significant responsibility, warning that the scope for unethical behaviour in AI is limitless.
“We should come together to create a roadmap for the responsible impact of AI,” he said, expressing confidence that the summit would play a pivotal role in building a human-centric global AI ecosystem.
As the summit continues, India has positioned itself not just as a major adopter of artificial intelligence, but as a key architect of a global, inclusive, and ethical AI future.
