A chartered accountant in Gurugram has been arrested for allegedly murdering his pregnant wife and staging the crime as a roadside robbery in Jhajjar. Police say the accused confessed after inconsistencies emerged.
Gurugram: A chartered accountant has been arrested for allegedly murdering his 27-year-old pregnant wife during a late-night car journey and attempting to pass off the crime as a roadside robbery, police officials said.
The incident, which unfolded on February 15, initially appeared to be a case of robbery-cum-murder near Pahsaur village in the Badli area of Jhajjar district. However, investigators say inconsistencies in the husband’s account quickly led them to suspect foul play.
According to police, the accused contacted the police control room shortly after 11 pm, claiming that unidentified men had stopped their vehicle on a deserted stretch near the Jhajjar–Badli road, attacked the couple, slit his wife’s throat and fled the scene.
Police teams reached the spot within minutes. The woman’s body was found approximately 100 metres off the main road on a dirt track, with visible neck injuries. The couple’s car was parked nearby. Officers reported that there were no immediate signs of forced robbery or struggle that would typically accompany such an attack.
Suspicion Over Robbery Claim
The case was initially registered as a robbery-cum-murder. However, during preliminary questioning, officers noted discrepancies in the accused’s version of events. He was reportedly unable to provide clear details about the alleged attackers, including their number, physical appearance, clothing, or how they escaped.
Investigators also observed that his narrative changed multiple times during questioning. The sequence of events he described was inconsistent with the physical evidence found at the scene, according to police sources.
Within 18 hours of the incident, the accused was taken into custody on charges of murder.

Alleged Confession and Sequence of Events
Following prolonged interrogation, the accused allegedly confessed to killing his wife. Police stated that the couple had been married for five months and had experienced repeated arguments since their wedding.
According to investigators, the couple had left the woman’s parental home in Hansi around 7 pm on February 15 and were travelling back to Gurugram when an argument broke out inside the car. The dispute reportedly stemmed from the husband’s suspicions regarding his wife’s character, which police say had been a recurring source of tension.
Investigators allege that during the altercation, the accused strangled his wife inside the vehicle. After confirming she was no longer alive, he allegedly wore gloves to avoid leaving fingerprints, used a pair of scissors to slit her throat, and moved the body outside the car in an attempt to stage the crime as a robbery.
He then drove a short distance before calling the police control room, officials said.
Victim Was Pregnant
The woman, employed at a branch of HDFC Bank in Gurugram, was pregnant at the time of her death, her family informed police.
Her father reportedly expressed suspicion from the outset, citing ongoing marital discord. The couple had entered into an arranged marriage on September 25 last year. While the victim worked in Gurugram, the accused was also employed in the city as a chartered accountant but maintained his permanent residence in Hisar.
On February 14, the couple had travelled to Hisar to spend time with family members. The following evening, they began their return journey to Gurugram. The alleged murder occurred roughly four hours into that trip.
Forensic Examination and Ongoing Probe
Police officials said that forensic teams are analysing evidence collected from the vehicle and the crime scene. Investigators are examining whether the scissors used in the crime were purchased in advance and whether the gloves were brought deliberately as part of a premeditated plan.
Authorities are also reviewing the couple’s mobile phone records, call logs, and digital communications to establish a clearer timeline and verify the statements made by the accused.
At this stage, police have confirmed that no other suspects are being investigated.
The accused has been remanded to judicial custody, and further legal proceedings are underway.
The case has once again drawn attention to instances of domestic violence and marital disputes escalating into fatal crimes. Investigators say the focus remains on establishing the full sequence of events based on forensic findings and digital evidence.
