Delhi Speaker Asks Atishi To Present ‘Faansi Ghar’ Evidence Before Committee !

Delhi Assembly Speaker Vijender Gupta asks Atishi to present proof of her ‘Faansi Ghar’ claim before the Privileges Committee instead of making statements in the media.

A political controversy has erupted in the Delhi Legislative Assembly after Speaker Vijender Gupta asked Leader of Opposition Atishi to submit evidence regarding her claim that a “Faansi Ghar” (execution chamber) existed inside the Assembly premises.

The Speaker’s remarks came after Atishi made the allegation during a press briefing, triggering a debate over the claim and prompting an official response from the Assembly leadership.

Speaker Writes To Atishi Over Claim

In a letter issued on Thursday, Vijender Gupta said that if Atishi possesses any evidence supporting her claim, it must be formally presented before the Assembly’s Privileges Committee rather than being discussed in public through media statements.

Gupta emphasised that making such allegations publicly could interfere with the committee’s work, as it is currently examining the issue. He also criticised what he described as “unsubstantiated statements”, saying they undermine the independent and non-partisan functioning of the legislative committee.

The Speaker noted that the appropriate platform to present evidence is during the committee’s inquiry proceedings.

Leaders Asked To Submit Proof

In his communication, the Speaker also asked Atishi to advise several senior leaders of the Aam Aadmi Party to present concrete proof when they appear before the committee.

Those summoned in connection with the inquiry include:

  • Arvind Kejriwal
  • Manish Sisodia
  • Ram Niwas Goel
  • Rakhi Birla

The Speaker said the purpose of summoning these leaders is precisely to allow them to present any evidence related to the claim before the Privileges Committee.

How The Controversy Started

The controversy began after Atishi alleged during a press briefing that a “Faansi Ghar” existed inside the Delhi Legislative Assembly building.

Her statement sparked political reactions and prompted the Speaker to respond formally, stressing that such claims should be backed by verifiable evidence and presented through official channels.

According to Gupta, making public allegations while the matter is under inquiry risks affecting the committee’s functioning and could influence the proceedings.

Speaker Calls For Responsible Conduct

In the letter, Vijender Gupta also urged Atishi to exercise caution while making public statements, particularly given her position as Leader of the Opposition in the Assembly.

He said political leaders should avoid making claims in the media when a matter is already being examined by a House committee, as it could compromise the integrity of the inquiry process.

Gupta reiterated that the Assembly committees operate independently and that their work should not be influenced by external political statements.

Privileges Committee Hearing On March 6

The development comes just a day before the four AAP leaders are scheduled to appear before the Privileges Committee as part of the ongoing inquiry.

The committee hearing is set to take place on March 6, where the summoned leaders are expected to respond to the allegations and present any supporting evidence related to the claim.

The Speaker maintained that the committee will examine the matter based on facts and documentation submitted during the proceedings.
