Three youths, including two brothers, were killed and two others injured in a tragic road accident in Punjab’s Abohar during the early hours of Monday. The incident occurred around 1 am when the car they were travelling in crashed into a road divider with severe impact while returning from Fazilka, police said.
The accident has sent shockwaves through Balluana village, near Abohar, where all five occupants of the vehicle were residents and known to work as contractors in kinnow orchards.
Accident Occurred Near Rotary Chowk
According to eyewitness accounts, the car was travelling from the Hanumangarh Road side and was descending a rail overbridge towards Rotary Chowk when the driver allegedly lost control of the vehicle. The car rammed into the divider at the intersection with tremendous force.
The impact was so severe that the front portion of the car was completely crushed, and a section of the divider was damaged. Debris from the collision was scattered across the road, indicating the intensity of the crash.
Victims Trapped Inside Vehicle
Police said that two occupants died on the spot, while the remaining three were found trapped inside the mangled vehicle. Passersby and emergency responders worked to pull them out before rushing them to Abohar Civil Hospital.
Doctors at the hospital declared three of the injured dead, while the remaining two were administered first aid and later referred to a hospital in Faridkot for advanced treatment.

The deceased have been identified as:

Police Action and Investigation
Ravinder Singh, in-charge of the City-1 Police Station, confirmed that the bodies have been kept in the mortuary for post-mortem examination. He said statements of family members are being recorded, and further investigation is underway to establish the exact cause of the accident.
Preliminary findings suggest that loss of control while descending the overbridge may have led to the crash, though officials said factors such as speed, road conditions, and mechanical failure are also being examined.
Rising Concerns Over Late-Night Road Safety
The incident has once again highlighted concerns over late-night driving safety and accidents on highways and overbridges in the region. Local residents have repeatedly raised issues regarding poor visibility, high speeds, and lack of adequate safety barriers at key intersections.
Authorities said they are reviewing accident-prone zones and stressed the need for cautious driving, especially during late-night hours.
Community in Mourning
The sudden loss of three young lives has left Balluana village in mourning. Friends and neighbours described the victims as hardworking and close-knit, adding that the tragedy has deeply affected the entire area.
As investigations continue, the focus remains on supporting the grieving families and ensuring accountability to prevent similar incidents in the future.
