Actor Dipika Kakar will undergo a medical procedure to treat a 13-mm liver cyst discovered during follow-ups amid her ongoing cancer treatment, husband Shoaib Ibrahim said.

Actor’s treatment plan may see minor changes after doctors detect a new cyst during routine follow-ups

Popular television actor Dipika Kakar, who has been undergoing treatment after being diagnosed with stage-2 liver cancer last year, is set to undergo another medical procedure this week after doctors detected a 13-mm cyst during routine evaluations. The development was shared by her husband, actor and content creator Shoaib Ibrahim, in a recent YouTube vlog, where the couple spoke candidly about the diagnosis and the road ahead.

Dipika had earlier revealed that she was diagnosed with a malignant tumour in her liver, described as being roughly the size of a tennis ball. She underwent a major surgery in which 22 per cent of her liver was removed, followed by ongoing treatment and regular medical monitoring.

Health Scare After a Family Event

In his vlog, Shoaib shared that the couple had attended a birthday celebration on Friday, during which Dipika appeared stable. However, her condition worsened later that night, prompting concern.

According to Shoaib, Dipika had been experiencing mild stomach pain for nearly two days, which intensified on Friday night. The pain led them to consult doctors immediately, resulting in further medical investigations.

“Today was completely spent going from one hospital to another,” Shoaib said, explaining that a CT scan was conducted to determine the cause of the discomfort.

Doctors Detect 13-mm Cyst

The scan revealed the presence of a 13-mm (1.3 cm) cyst, a finding that understandably caused anxiety given Dipika’s medical history.

Sharing the details, Shoaib said, “We learned that Dipika has developed another cyst. Other than this cyst, everything else is normal. This was our biggest fear, because last time the doctors had told us that aggressive tumours have a chance of recurrence.”

Dipika also spoke in the vlog, revealing that alongside stomach pain, she had been experiencing persistent shoulder pain for two days, which raised additional alarm.

“I’ve been having the same pain in my shoulder along with the stomach pain. That worried us, but doctors have clarified that the shoulder pain is not connected to this cyst,” she said.

Procedure Planned, Hospital Stay Expected

Doctors have advised a non-invasive medical procedure to treat the cyst. Shoaib clarified that the intervention would not involve major surgery.

“The cyst will be treated by burning it,” he explained, adding that Dipika would likely need to remain hospitalised for three to four days, with the procedure scheduled for Tuesday.

The couple expressed relief that the cyst was detected at an early stage, noting that it was not visible in a PET scan conducted in December, underscoring the importance of continued follow-ups.

Possible Changes in Treatment Plan

Shoaib also revealed that Dipika’s ongoing cancer treatment may require minor adjustments following the cyst procedure. At present, Dipika has been on oral chemotherapy as part of her recovery.

“The doctor mentioned that after this treatment, her medication might change. Oral chemotherapy may be stopped, and she may need proper immunotherapy instead,” Shoaib said, stressing that the final decision would be taken after the current procedure.

He added that cysts and similar complications are not uncommon in patients with such medical histories, which is why doctors repeatedly emphasize strict monitoring.

Dipika’s Message to Fellow Patients

Despite the emotional toll, Dipika appeared composed and resolute, sharing a message of strength for others battling serious illnesses.

“Such is life. People like me who are fighting such conditions need to face these obstacles and stay strong,” she said. “Yes, you get scared. I was scared too this morning, but I’m glad we found this in time. Regular follow-ups are extremely important. Don’t ignore even the slightest pain.”

She also said she would pray for everyone fighting major health challenges, not limited to cancer alone, acknowledging the courage such journeys demand.

A Personal Milestone Amid Medical Battles

Shoaib also mentioned that the day coincided with a personal milestone for the couple the anniversary of their sangeet ceremony eight years ago highlighting the emotional contrast between celebration and struggle.

Dipika and Shoaib have been married since 2018 and welcomed their son, Ruhaan, in 2023. Throughout Dipika’s treatment, the couple has chosen to share updates openly, earning widespread support from fans.
