PRIME VISTA NEWS

A police head constable deployed for Operation Prahar 2.0, Punjab’s ongoing statewide crackdown on organised crime, died on duty in Muktsar district early Monday morning after suffering a suspected cardiac arrest while proceeding for a raid, officials confirmed.

The officer, Lakhvir Singh (52), was posted at Bariwala police station and was part of a team moving to conduct a raid at the residence of a proclaimed offender in Warring village. According to police sources, Singh collapsed while en route to the location at around 5.30 am, shortly after the operation began in the district.

Singh, a resident of Kaoni village, was known to be diabetic, officials said. However, the exact cause of death will be determined after a post-mortem examination, which is being conducted as per protocol.

Confirming the incident, Bariwala SHO Gurdeep Singh said the officer was actively performing duty at the time of his collapse. “Head Constable Lakhvir Singh was proceeding for a raid as part of Operation Prahar 2.0 when he suddenly fell ill and passed away on the way,” the SHO said.

Senior police officers supervising the operation expressed deep regret over the incident. Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Sanjeev Kumar Rampal, who was in Muktsar to oversee the execution of Operation Prahar 2.0, described the death as an unfortunate loss to the force.

“I have been informed that our colleague died due to a heart attack while on duty. The Punjab Police stand with the bereaved family, and financial assistance will be provided in accordance with government rules,” the DIG said.

The incident occurred amid intensive enforcement activity under Operation Prahar 2.0, a large-scale campaign launched by the Punjab Police to dismantle gangster networks and arrest proclaimed offenders, shooters, and their associates. The operation has involved coordinated raids, checkpoints, and surveillance across multiple districts.

Earlier Coverage: Prime Vista News previously reported on the statewide Operation Prahar 2.0 crackdown that led to over 1,100 arrests.

Muktsar SSP Abhimanyu Rana said that a substantial police deployment had been made in the district as part of the operation. “A total of 650 police personnel have been deployed for Operation Prahar 2.0 in Muktsar. Of these, 500 personnel are from the district police, while 150 personnel have been deployed from outside the district,” the SSP said.

He added that extensive preventive measures were also in place to restrict the movement of criminals and prevent their escape. “We have established 22 inter-state and inter-district checkpoints (nakas) across strategic locations. So far, 37 criminals have been apprehended during the ongoing operation,” Rana said.

According to the SSP, the operation in Muktsar commenced in the early hours of Monday and is scheduled to continue for 72 hours, with teams carrying out targeted raids based on intelligence inputs. Police officials stressed that the operation is being conducted in a phased and systematic manner to ensure maximum impact against organised crime.

The death of Head Constable Lakhvir Singh has cast a sombre shadow over the ongoing crackdown, underscoring the risks faced by police personnel engaged in prolonged, high-intensity law enforcement operations. Colleagues described Singh as a disciplined officer who was committed to his duty.

Punjab Police officials reiterated that despite the tragic loss, the operation would continue with full resolve. “The sacrifice and dedication of our personnel strengthen our commitment to maintain law and order and protect public safety,” a senior officer said.

Operation Prahar 2.0 remains a key component of the state’s zero-tolerance approach toward organized crime, with authorities maintaining that sustained enforcement efforts are necessary to restore peace and security across Punjab.
