Prime Vista News

A bomb threat email sent to the District Courts Complex in Sector 43, Chandigarh, on Friday morning triggered panic and prompted an immediate security response, leading to the evacuation and cordoning off of the premises for several hours.

According to officials, court authorities received the threatening email around 11.30 am and promptly informed the police. Acting swiftly, senior police officials rushed to the spot and initiated standard security protocols to ensure the safety of judges, lawyers, court staff, and the general public.

Premises Sealed, Search Operation Launched

Following the alert, the entire District Courts complex was cordoned off as a precautionary measure. Entry and exit points were sealed, and people present inside the premises were moved to safe locations.

Bomb disposal squads and forensic teams were deployed to carry out a comprehensive search of the complex. The operation was conducted under the supervision of senior police officers, with teams systematically scanning courtrooms, corridors, parking areas, and surrounding spaces.

After several hours of intensive checks, police confirmed that no suspicious object or explosive material was found inside the premises. The complex was subsequently declared safe.

Court Operations Disrupted

The bomb threat led to temporary disruption of court proceedings, with hearings either postponed or delayed as security agencies conducted their checks. Lawyers and litigants were seen waiting outside the premises during the operation, while police personnel maintained strict control of the area.

Officials said that such precautionary evacuations are necessary to avoid any risk, even when a threat later turns out to be a hoax.

Cyber Probe Launched to Trace Email Source

The Chandigarh Police have initiated a cyber investigation to trace the origin of the bomb threat email. Technical teams are analysing digital footprints, including IP addresses and server details, to identify the sender.

Police officials stated that strict legal action would be taken against those responsible for issuing false threats, which not only disrupt public services but also strain emergency response resources.

Security Tightened Amid Recent Hoax Threats

Security has been further tightened at court complexes and other sensitive locations across Chandigarh in light of a recent surge in hoax bomb threats. In the past few weeks, several schools and government buildings in the city have received similar threat emails, most of which were later found to be false.

Senior officials said that while many of these incidents turn out to be hoaxes, each threat is treated seriously to ensure public safety.

“We cannot take chances when it comes to security,” a police officer said. “Every threat is investigated thoroughly, and appropriate action is taken.”

Appeal to the Public

Police have appealed to the public to remain calm and cooperate with authorities during such incidents. They also urged citizens not to spread rumours or unverified information on social media, which can lead to unnecessary panic.

Authorities reiterated that issuing bomb threats is a serious criminal offence and warned that perpetrators would face stringent action under the law.

Normal activity at the District Courts resumed after the premises were declared safe later in the day.
