Punjabi Singer Simar Doraha Briefly Detained in Canada, Released Soon After-Family Raises Mental Health Concerns:
Punjabi singer and songwriter Simar Doraha was briefly detained by Canadian police earlier this week before being released shortly afterward, according to information shared by his family and unofficial sources. The incident gained widespread attention after reports circulated on social media and television news platforms. Canadian authorities have not yet issued an official statement on the matter.
Unofficial sources indicated that the singer was taken into custody in connection with an alleged theft case. However, family members later confirmed that he was released within 20 to 25 minutes of being detained.
Simar Doraha, who moved to Canada approximately two years ago, is currently unmarried. He had returned to India last month and was staying in rented accommodation in Mohali during his visit. According to his family, he spent only a brief period at his home in Doraha, Punjab.

His parents said they were shocked when news of the detention surfaced. His mother, Inderjeet Kaur, confirmed that her son had indeed been detained but emphasised that the matter was resolved quickly.
She also disclosed that Simar has been dealing with bipolar disorder and was undergoing treatment while in India. According to the family, his condition has worsened in recent weeks, and they have been making efforts to convince him to seek hospitalisation in Amritsar for further medical care.
“He was in India for nearly two months but stayed with us in Doraha for only two days,” his mother said, adding that the family has been trying to ensure he receives proper treatment.
Simar Doraha is a well-known figure in the Punjabi music industry, particularly among younger audiences. He enjoys a strong digital presence, with around one million followers on Instagram, and has written between 45 and 55 songs. His work often focuses on themes such as social issues, love, and everyday life, earning him recognition for his emotionally driven and thought-provoking lyrics.
When contacted, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Khanna, Darpan Ahluwalia, stated that since the singer does not reside within the jurisdiction of Doraha, local police are unable to issue any official comment regarding the incident.
As of now, no confirmation or detailed information has been released by Canadian police authorities, and the circumstances surrounding the brief detention remain unclear.
