Mahmudabad/Riyadh: A 26-year-old man from Uttar Pradesh is feared to have been killed in a suspected missile attack in Riyadh, with his family in India claiming they have been informed of his death but are still awaiting official confirmation from authorities.
The deceased, identified as Ravi Gopal, hailed from Baghain village under Mahmudabad police station limits. He had been working as a driver in a plastic factory in the Saudi capital since September 2025.

Last Call Before Tragedy
Family members say Ravi last spoke to them on the evening of March 18. His wife, Ritu, recalled their final conversation, which ended abruptly.
“The call got disconnected after about 20 minutes. When we tried calling again, his phone was switched off. We also tried reaching his friends, but no one responded,” she said.
The sudden loss of contact left the family anxious, but it was only the next day that they received distressing news.
Friend Informs Family of Death
According to the family, they were informed about Ravi’s death by his friend Ram Niwas, who also works in Saudi Arabia and is originally from Barabanki in Uttar Pradesh.
Ram Niwas reportedly told the family that Ravi was killed in a missile strike that hit an area near the factory where he was employed.
Ravi’s elder brother, Manmohan Dayal, said they were told that he was on duty at the time of the incident.
“He was working when the missile strike happened and got buried under debris. He was later taken to a hospital, where doctors declared him dead. His body was identified by Ram Niwas,” Dayal said.
Awaiting Official Confirmation
Despite the claims made by the family and the information shared by Ravi’s friend, there has been no formal confirmation from Saudi authorities regarding the exact circumstances of his death.
Local officials in India have begun the verification process. The Mahmudabad administration has contacted the family to gather necessary details about Ravi’s employment and identity.
B K Singh, Sub-Divisional Magistrate of Mahmudabad, said authorities are coordinating closely with the family.
“The details have been collected and forwarded to the government for further action. We are in regular touch with the family members,” he said.
Government and Embassy Respond
At the national level, the Ministry of External Affairs has acknowledged the incident.
Aseem R Mahajan, Additional Secretary (Gulf) in the ministry, said during a briefing that the government had received information late on March 18 regarding the “tragic demise of an Indian national” in Riyadh.
While he did not elaborate on the nature of the attack, he extended condolences to the family and assured that the government is actively engaged in the matter.
The Embassy of India in Riyadh also confirmed in a social media post that an Indian national had died on March 18 and said it is in touch with local authorities.
Officials added that efforts are underway to facilitate the early repatriation of the mortal remains once all formalities are completed.
Relative Travelling to Riyadh
To help confirm the situation on the ground, a relative of Ravi who is also working in Saudi Arabia is expected to travel to Riyadh. According to family members, he is currently located about 1,400 kilometres away from the capital and will assist in verifying the details and coordinating with local authorities.
The family hopes that his presence will help bring clarity to the situation and expedite the process of bringing Ravi’s body back to India.

Sole Breadwinner of the Family
Ravi Gopal was the sole earning member of his family. He is survived by his wife and a four-year-old son, who now face an uncertain future.
Family members say Ravi had gone to Saudi Arabia in search of better livelihood opportunities and had been supporting his household through his earnings abroad.
His sudden death has left the family devastated, both emotionally and financially.
Family Seeks Compensation, Repatriation
The grieving family has appealed to the authorities for assistance, including compensation and the swift return of Ravi’s body to his native village for last rites.
They have urged the government to intervene and ensure that all necessary support is extended to them during this difficult time.
Rising Concerns Amid Regional Tensions
The reported incident comes against the backdrop of rising tensions in West Asia, where missile and drone attacks have been reported in several regions in recent weeks.
While details of the specific strike in Riyadh remain unclear, the situation has heightened concerns about the safety of foreign workers, including thousands of Indians employed across the Gulf region.
Officials say they are closely monitoring developments and remain in touch with Indian missions in the region to ensure the safety and well-being of citizens abroad.
Investigation and Verification Continue
Authorities in both India and Saudi Arabia are expected to continue the verification process in the coming days to establish the exact circumstances surrounding Ravi Gopal’s death.
Once confirmed, further steps including documentation, legal procedures, and repatriation arrangements will be initiated.
Prime Vista News will continue to follow this developing story and provide updates as more information becomes available.
