Kuwait International Airport was targeted by multiple drones causing infrastructure damage but no casualties. Authorities say the attack comes amid escalating regional tensions linked to the Iran war.
Kuwait City:
Kuwait International Airport was targeted by multiple drones early Thursday morning, causing damage to airport infrastructure and raising fresh security concerns in the Gulf region amid the ongoing Iran war.
Authorities confirmed that the attack resulted in material damage but no casualties or injuries have been reported so far. Emergency protocols were immediately activated and the situation was brought under control by security agencies.
The incident marks another escalation in regional tensions that have intensified since the conflict involving Iran, the United States and Israel began earlier this year.
Aviation Authorities Confirm Drone Attack

The attack was confirmed by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), which said several drones targeted the airport facility during the early hours of Thursday.
Officials said the attack damaged certain infrastructure components but did not affect passengers or airport staff.
According to the DGCA statement, the drones struck parts of the airport complex, prompting authorities to implement emergency response procedures already established since the beginning of the regional crisis.
Abdullah Al-Rajhi, spokesperson for the civil aviation authority, said the situation was handled swiftly through coordination between aviation authorities and national security agencies.
“The airport was targeted by several drones this morning, resulting in material damages only, with no casualties reported,” Al-Rajhi said.
He added that authorities followed an emergency response plan that had been implemented earlier in anticipation of possible attacks linked to the ongoing regional conflict.
Emergency Plan Activated At Airport
Officials said the response to the attack was carried out in full coordination with relevant government departments responsible for national security and aviation safety.
Airport authorities have emphasised that operations remain under control and that measures are being taken to maintain the safety of civil aviation within the country.
The aviation authority also reiterated its commitment to protecting the country’s aviation infrastructure amid rising security threats.
In a public statement, officials said they remain vigilant and are continuously assessing risks to ensure passenger safety and operational stability at the airport.
Kuwait Increasingly Drawn Into Regional Conflict
Kuwait has witnessed several security incidents since the regional war escalated on February 28, when Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei was reportedly killed in a targeted strike, triggering retaliatory actions across the region.
Since the beginning of the conflict, authorities say multiple drones and missiles have been launched toward Kuwaiti territory.
Kuwait hosts several military facilities used by the United States, making the country strategically significant in the broader regional security landscape.
Because of this, analysts believe the nation could increasingly face threats as tensions between Iran and its adversaries continue to escalate.
Areas Near Airport Previously Targeted
This is not the first incident near the airport since the conflict began.
Security forces previously intercepted several drones and missiles that entered Kuwaiti airspace earlier this week.
Some projectiles reportedly landed in areas close to the international airport on Sunday, prompting heightened security measures around the facility.
Authorities said air defence systems successfully intercepted several threats before they could cause major damage.
Casualties Reported In Earlier Attacks
While Thursday’s drone strike did not result in casualties, earlier incidents related to the conflict have led to fatalities in Kuwait.
The Ministry of Interior Kuwait confirmed that two security personnel were killed while performing their duties during a previous attack.
Officials described them as “martyrs of duty” who were serving in the General Administration of Land Border Security.
The ministry issued a statement mourning the loss of the officers and expressing condolences to their families.
Authorities have said that at least five people have been killed in various incidents across Kuwait since the conflict escalated.
Drone Attack Previously Hit Government Building
Another drone strike earlier targeted a government office building that houses the headquarters of the Public Institution for Social Security.
The attack sparked a large fire within the complex but fortunately did not result in casualties.
Firefighters managed to contain the blaze after several hours, though the building sustained significant damage.
The incident further raised concerns about the vulnerability of civilian and government infrastructure to drone attacks.

Rising Drone Warfare Across The Region
Military experts say the growing use of drones in the conflict reflects a broader shift in modern warfare across the Middle East.
Unmanned aerial vehicles have become a preferred tool for attacks because they are relatively inexpensive, difficult to detect and capable of striking strategic targets.
Critical infrastructure such as airports, oil facilities, military bases and government buildings have increasingly become targets.
Countries across the Gulf region have therefore strengthened air defence systems and surveillance capabilities to counter these threats.
Aviation Safety Under Close Watch
Despite the latest incident, Kuwaiti authorities have stressed that maintaining aviation safety remains a top priority.
The civil aviation authority said it continues to coordinate closely with defence and security agencies to monitor potential threats.
Airports across the region have also stepped up surveillance and security protocols in response to the heightened tensions.
Officials have assured travellers that safety measures remain in place and that the country’s aviation infrastructure continues to operate under strict security oversight.
Regional Security Situation Remains Fragile
The drone strike highlights the fragile security environment across the Gulf region as the broader Iran war continues.
Analysts warn that strategic infrastructure such as airports and energy facilities could remain potential targets if hostilities persist.
With several countries in the region hosting military bases and critical transport hubs, the risk of spillover incidents remains high.
For now, Kuwaiti authorities say they are maintaining heightened security levels while monitoring developments closely.
