“You must have seen the T20 World Cup celebrations. Hardik Pandya was dancing with his girlfriend in celebration of the victory with the national flag tied to his back,” Khan said.

“According to Section 2 of the 1971 National Flag Act, we must respect the dignity of the national flag. However, during the celebrations, he was lying down while wearing the flag, which I believe amounts to disrespect,” he added.

Jurisdiction Question Raised

According to the advocate, police officials initially pointed out that the incident took place in Ahmedabad, raising questions about jurisdiction since the complaint was filed in Pune.

However, Khan argued that the national flag represents the entire country and therefore the issue could be raised anywhere in India.

“I have filed the complaint with the Shivaji Nagar police station. They accepted the complaint and provided me with a copy. Now we will see what happens next,” he said.

Police officials have not yet clarified whether the complaint will be transferred to authorities in Gujarat or examined locally.
