Delhi Police traced as many as 72 missing persons in the Southwest District during the month of January, offering relief to dozens of families and highlighting ongoing efforts under Operation Milap, a special drive aimed at locating missing individuals and reuniting them with their families.
According to official police data, a total of 138 missing person and kidnapping complaints were registered in the district last month. Of these, 53 complaints involved men, while 85 were related to women. Through sustained investigation and follow-up, police were able to trace 72 individuals including 33 men and 39 women and reunite them with their families.
Police officials said that the recoveries were made through a combination of technical surveillance, field verification, coordination with other districts, and information shared by families and the public.
Missing Cases in 2025: Data Snapshot
The data further revealed that the Southwest District recorded 1,691 missing or kidnapping complaints throughout 2025. Of these cases, police successfully worked out 1,200, reflecting a recovery rate of over 70 percent.
Officials stated that Operation Milap continues to play a key role in tracing missing persons, particularly women and vulnerable individuals. The operation focuses on time-bound investigation, use of digital tools, CCTV footage analysis, and inter-state coordination when required.
“Every missing person case is treated with urgency,” a police official said. “Our priority is to trace individuals at the earliest and ensure their safe return.”
Meanwhile, traffic movement was severely affected in Rupnagar (Ropar) after highways were blocked due to protests earlier.
Focus on Women and Vulnerable Groups
Police noted that a significant number of missing cases involve women, many of whom leave home due to family disputes, social pressures, or in search of employment. In several instances, the missing persons were found to have travelled voluntarily and were later counselled before being reunited with their families.
Authorities said that counselling and legal support are also provided where required, especially in cases involving domestic issues or minors.
Warning Against Paid Promotion and Fake Panic
Meanwhile, Delhi Police issued a strong warning against individuals and groups using “paid promotion” to create hype and panic over reports of missing girls on social media platforms.
In a post on X (Twitter), the police stated that investigations revealed that exaggerated claims about a surge in missing girls in Delhi were being artificially amplified through paid promotions.
“After following a few leads, it was found that the hype around missing girls in Delhi was pushed through paid promotion. Creating panic for monetary gains will not be tolerated, and strict action will be taken against such individuals,” the police said in the post.
Officials clarified that while missing person cases are taken seriously, spreading misleading or exaggerated information can cause unnecessary fear among the public and distress to families.
Police Appeal to the Public
Delhi Police have urged citizens to rely only on verified information and official sources when sharing details related to missing persons. They also appealed to families to report missing cases immediately, as early reporting significantly improves the chances of recovery.
The police advised the public to avoid forwarding unverified posts on social media and to cooperate with authorities during investigations.
Continuing Efforts Under Operation Milap
Operation Milap remains a key initiative of Delhi Police, focusing on tracing missing persons across districts. Regular reviews, data analysis, and coordination meetings are conducted to improve recovery rates.
Police officials said that efforts will continue to strengthen monitoring mechanisms and awareness campaigns to ensure public cooperation and prevent misuse of sensitive issues for personal or financial gain.
As Delhi continues to grapple with a high volume of missing person cases, authorities reiterated their commitment to ensuring swift action, transparency, and accountability in handling such matters.
